My name is Jason S. Friesema, and I am professional counselor practicing out of an office in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. Recently, I have also begun meeting with clients once per week in Woodland Park, Colorado. I specialize in addictions counseling, and I have been in this field in one way or another since 1999. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with both my Bachelor Degree in Psychology (1997) and my Master’s Degree in Community Counseling (2004). My counseling approach tends to be a balance of a high degree of compassion and understanding balanced with challenging questions and insights. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with both adults and teenagers in my practice. I even mix in a little humor as needed. You can check out my Facebook Page here to keep up to date about my practice.
Personally, I love living in Colorado. I have climbed all of Colorado’s 14ers, and I love taking long backpacking trips mainly with my brother (see www.hikingintherockies.com). Some of my most challenging hikes also include Mt. Rainier in Washington and another trip which included summiting the highest point in Wyoming; Gannett Peak. Along with these experiences with mountaineering, I have recently completed a bucket list item: the Pikes Peak Marathon in 2013. Drawing from these experiences, I love to challenge people in early recovery from addiction or other mental health issue to begin building a life full of meaning and enjoyment. I find this endeavor to be possible and worthwhile.
Currently I am seeing new clients and working as the Clinical Director for Peaks Recovery Centers. Please visit the website at here to learn more about the exciting things we are doing in Colorado Springs.
Additionally, I have been married for eighteen years to my wife Trish. We have both had paths of personal recovery, and we have done a tremendous amount of work on our marriage. We have two children who are both presently in middle school. As a family, we enjoy our occasional 14er as a family as well camping together, disc golf, movies, skiing, hiking, and many board games including Apples to Apples, Ticket to Ride, and Monopoly.
